“Big Media” WordPress Meetup in NYC

We’re co-hosting a “Big Media” WordPress Meetup on Wednesday, August 21 at 6 p.m. with the NYT at The New York Times building.

The “Big Media” WordPress Meetup focuses on issues concerning the operation, development, and scaling of large, high-traffic WordPress websites. Topics tend to be technical, but not exclusively—all are welcome, including folks from editorial and business teams.

The following presenters will be giving 10 minute “flash” talks, followed by 5-10 minutes of questions:

  • Andrew Nacin (Lead Developer, WordPress) – TBD
  • Austin Smith (Co-Founder, Alley Interactive) – Elastic Search on WordPress.com in Action
  • Jaymin Patel (Manager of Technology, NYTimes Blogs) – What’s Next for the NYT Blogs
  • Josh Kadis (Web Applications Technologist, Quartz) – Building qz.com, a web app powered by WordPress

Full event information can be found here.

Please RSVP to the event via the “Big Media” WordPress Meetup Group (you may need to request to join first).

NYC VIP Party – Thank You!

Hudson Hotel

To those of you who were able to join us last Thursday in NYC for the VIP Happy Hour, I wanted to extend a hearty thank you – we really enjoyed seeing so many of you there! We had about 120 attendees, ate some delicious chocolate fondue and enjoyed the beautiful courtyard space at the Hudson Hotel. We’re really looking forward to our next VIP Happy Hour – in London next February (more details on this soon…).

If you have ideas for future events that you’d like to see us host or sponsor (both social or professional welcome!), please get in touch. We really enjoy bringing everyone together and we’re looking forward to some awesome events in 2013.

“Big Media” WordPress Forum in NYC

Attention NYC-based VIP customers: the New York Times, with assistance from WordPress.com VIP, will be hosting a monthly meet-up for major media companies in and around New York City who use WordPress.

The first event is scheduled for Thursday, April 26 from 7 to 9:30pm at The New York Times building. We’ll start at 7pm, but doors open at 6:15—come early and meet your peers. There will be socializing afterwards as well.

The program will feature a couple of announced speakers and presentations, plus time for “lightning talks”—an open microphone and projector for anyone to show and tell work they’re doing. If you’re interested in speaking, please get in touch.

The content will focus on the concerns and solutions unique to big media companies using WordPress. Things like: scalability, plug-ins and APIs, feeds, versioning and upgrades, downstream dependencies, media, measurement, edit tools and workflow, and on and on.

Please register here if you’d like to attend—I hope you can join us!
