New Release: Jetpack 6.7

This notice relates to the following platforms: VIP Go

Jetpack 6.7 has been deployed to all VIP Go sites. This release adds two new features (as well as a slew of the usual bug fixes and enhancements):

  • Activitya convenient way to track changes made to your site. Activity allows you to monitor updates to your site (everything from plugin installations and theme changes to comment approvals and post deletions), which makes it easier to troubleshoot and make repairs, should something go wrong.
  • Asset CDN: Jetpack can now serve certain JavaScript and CSS assets from Automattic’s global CDN, to improve load times and provide a faster experience for visitors. This is a built-in feature for all VIP Go sites; your sites have been benefitting from it since launch!

Call for Testing: Jetpack 6.7 (Beta)

Jetpack 6.7 will be deployed to VIP Go on Monday, November 12, 2018. The upgrade is expected to be performed at 20:00 UTC (15:00 EST). This deployment date and time is subject to change if issues are discovered during testing of the Jetpack release.

The beta is available now, and the download link is at the top of the beta release notice.

What is being added or changed?

This update adds initial support for Gutenberg with a new Markdown block, updates to various shortcodes, improvements for the Sitemaps module, compatibility for the upcoming Twenty Nineteen theme, and other fixes.

What do I need to do?

We recommend:

  1. Installing the beta release on your non-production sites using these instructions.

Resolved: GitHub Availability Issue

This notice relates to the following platforms: VIP Go

The availability issues for GitHub, posted earlier today, have now been resolved. In an update post, the GitHub team notes that all GitHub services are back to normal.

Deploys to VIP Go sites are now back to normal as well as well access to repos, issues, pull requests, etc.

New Release: Jetpack 6.6

Jetpack 6.6 (and the 6.6.1 update) have been deployed to all VIP Go sites. This release adds two new features (as well as a slew of the usual bug fixes and small enhancements):

  • Better Site Verification Tools: Jetpack now has a more streamlined flow for site verification via Google Search Console.
  • Asset CDN: Jetpack can now serve certain JavaScript and CSS assets from Automattic’s global CDN, to improve load times and provide a faster experience for visitors. This is already a core feature for all VIP Go sites; your sites have been benefitting from it since launch!

Jetpack 6.5 has been deployed to all VIP Go sites. This version is a maintenance and security release. Some key highlights include:

Simple Payments security update

This update improves the security of the Simple Payments widget.

Lazy Images network usage improved

Your site visitors will have an even faster experience scrolling through your images once you’ve activated Lazy Images.

WordAds improvements

You can now add and control custom entries on the ads.txt file with a brand-new setting. Just head to the Jetpack Admin Page settings under the Traffic tab.

New Release: Jetpack 6.4

This notice relates to the following platforms: VIP Go

Jetpack 6.4 (and the 6.4.1 point release) has been deployed to all VIP Go sites.

This version is another general maintenance release. It adds support for flat.io embeds, and includes fixes for Lazy Loading Images and Simple Payment Widget, along with several other minor enhancements and fixes.

Update (2018-08-10 1612 UTC): Jetpack 6.4.2 was released earlier today and has been deployed across all sites.

New Release: WordPress 4.9.8

This notice relates to the following platforms: WordPress.com VIP, VIP Go

WordPress 4.9.8, a maintenance release, was deployed today. All sites across WordPress.com and VIP Go have been upgraded.

This release contains 46 fixes and several small enhancements, including:

  • TinyMCE: Updated to v4.7.13
  • Privacy: The type of request being confirmed is now included in the subject line for all privacy confirmation emails.
  • Performance: Extreme memory leak related to wp_is_stream in wp-includes/functions.php in WordPress 4.9.7
  • REST API: Attachments controller should respect “Max upload file size” and “Site upload space” in multisite
  • REST API: Only render fields specific to request when _fields= is used
  • REST API: Expose revision count and last revision ID on Post response
  • Meta: the register_meta() function supports registration of metadata not only for an entire object type (posts, terms, comments, users), but also for a specific object subtype (such as a specific post type or taxonomy).

Please note that the “Try Gutenberg” banner will not be shown on either WordPress.com or VIP Go.
