Call for Testing: WordPress 5.5 and the end of jQuery Migrate

When WordPress 5.5 is released next week, as part of the upgrade, jQuery Migrate will be removed from WordPress core. To ensure that you don’t have any issues with this upgrade, we want to let our customers know about a few testing options to ensure a smooth transition.

Test jQuery Updates plugin

First, use the Test jQuery Updates plugin to enable and disable the bundled version of jQuery that is in core. The plugin will change the bundled version of jQuery, it can remove jQuery Migrate and simulate the effect of using WordPress 5.5 ahead of the migration.

Update VIP Go development environments

If you have not already requested it, you can have your non-production sites switched to WordPress 5.5 for testing this feature, and other upcoming WordPress 5.5 changes. If this is something you’re interested in, please open a ticket and we can set it up for you.

Bring back jQuery Migrate

If you have issues with getting existing code to run, there is a core plugin to replicate the jQuery Migrate and help ease into this transition. This should be temporary as plugins and themes should be updated for the transition to the latest version of jQuery in the eventual WordPress core 5.6 release around the end of the year.

And, as always, if you have any questions related to this release, please open a support ticket and we will be happy to assist.
