Reminder: WordPress 3.9 Coming March 6

This is a reminder that WordPress 3.9 will be coming to WordPress.com VIP next week. We are currently targeting for Thursday, March 6 at 12 p.m. ET.

What to prepare for:

  • TinyMCE upgrading to 4.0. Be sure to test any TinyMCE plugins.
  • WordPress will be upgrading to Backbone 1.1 and Underscore 1.6. If you use either libraries, it’s important to test. Any Views extending Backbone.View can now extend wp.Backbone.View for backwards compatibility. More info.
  • Updating Plupload to 2.1.1. More info.
  • Making sure your editorial team is aware of the TinyMCE interface updates.

The easiest way to test for 3.9 is to use our VIP Quickstart development environment. It automatically sets you up with an SVN checkout of trunk (and auto-updates every time you run vip-init.sh or .bat). You can also use the Beta Tester plugin to easily update beta releases and test. We also encourage you to involve your editorial staff in testing, so that they can help you catch any workflow issues early.

Although the VIP Team is on light coverage Saturday, March 1 to Saturday, March 8, the team will be available on Thursday, March 6 to assist with this update. Please open a ticket if you have any questions and we will reply to you as soon as possible.
