Oovvuu is the newest addition to our group of partners demonstrating excellence in implementing best-in-class solutions for WordPress at scale. This Australian media tech “scale-up” provides the market-leading platform to seamlessly embed videos in news articles, supporting publishers’ goals to drive traffic, increase engagement, and improve monetization.
Oovvuu was founded by journalists-turned-entrepreneurs with the three-fold mission of:
Putting a contextually-relevant video in every article in the world;
Delivering trusted news to a billion people; and
Creating an advertising model to sustain journalism in the 21st century.
Launched in Sydney in late 2014, Oovvuu has partnered with hundreds of broadcasters and publishers (including Reuters, Bloomberg, The Associated Press, The Guardian, and Australia’s Seven West Media) to distribute reliable news to millions of people worldwide daily.
News video consumption is exploding worldwide, yet the news industry faces increasing headwinds. Oovvuu’s focus is on building a consortium of trusted publishers and broadcasters and lasting success for the industry. The outcome of that is a safer, more trusting world for billions.
Oovvuu uses world-leading proprietary machine learning technology to read news articles, watch videos, and recommend matches. Their technology is designed to fit into the workflow of busy newsrooms and to put the power in the hands of journalists to improve news reporting.
At Media24 of South Africa, Oovvuu grew traffic by 30x and engagement 26x in seven months, leading to significant revenue gains in their video strategy.
“Oovvuu is built by journalists for journalists. Like WordPress VIP, we recognise publishers and broadcasters have public trust and a burning passion to report the news. We built the tech that binds them together and now we are focused on working with the WordPress community to bring our common mission to the world.”
If you missed WordCamp SF this past weekend, or didn’t catch the live stream, the fine folks who work on WordPress.tv have the keynote by WordPress co-founder and Automattic founder Matt Mullenweg ready to go:
BuddyPress, a set of plugins which will transform an installation of WordPress MU into a social network platform, is nearing a 1.0 final release – scheduled for Thursday February 12th.
We’ve received lots of interest about this project, and to help provide more info we’ve produced a short video with a great overview of BuddyPress and a hint as to what’s possible with this great new platform:
t5m, The 5th Medium, has launched a new content studio which “co-produces interview-based, factual entertainment content in partnership with events, celebrities, charities, venues and brands.”
Built using WordPress MU, this new video platform service includes all the tools and features needed to deliver and present high quality video content, and customize the offering to suit the needs of the individual brand.
According to t5m, the new platform includes the following offerings:
All content co-produced with a partner (personality, charity, promoter, venue or brand)
Sponsorship sales and product placement
t5m works with partners to find the right sponsors and brands
Interactive video player
t5m’s own video player is a widget and offers users selected quality
Multi-platform syndication network
Video sharing sites, specialised sites, broadcast TV, blogs, print, radio
Celebrity booking
Custom video platforms
In addition to syndicating the content, larger clients often want to set up their own video platform.
TechCrunch UK recently profiled t5m and commented that:
UK startup t5m has today re-launched … by setting up a global network of bureaus to produce and syndicating short-form interactive 3-5 minute HD video, built around brands and distributed via its own custom-built video player.
Right now the portal site is mainly a showcase but next February it will re-launch with personalisation, social networking, shopping, competitions and new video contributors. It’s being built on a customised version of the open-source WordPress platform called WordPress Multi-User… The site now features 300 hours of HD content, 100 in-depth profiles and over 20 events.
A few of us had lunch with Ben Huh of the inimitable I Can Has Cheezburger (and others) today. Here’s the video:
LOLcats have remarkable staying power:
Update: Looks like I put my hand over the microphone on the part where Ben says how much he likes WordPress.com. You’ll have to take our word for it. 🙂
… the first media company that gets it, born from the Internet, on-demand generation. Unlike aggregators, mash-ups, and user-generated video sites, Revision3 is an actual TV network for the web, creating and producing its own original, broadcast quality shows.
The company was founded in 2005 by technology visionaries Kevin Rose, Jay Adelson and David Prager, because they couldn’t find anything they wanted to watch on traditional television, and is now led by Internet TV pioneer Jim Louderback.
On the site they do a great job showcasing all of their various shows such as Diggnation and The Gigaom Show — while offering their video content in every conceivable format.
The team at Crowd Favorite has worked on many WordPress projects, and offers the following WordPress services:
Custom plugin development services, WordPress as a CMS development, WordPress theme design and development, WPMU (WordPress Multi-User) development, integrations, and general “how can I do this?” services for WordPress.
If you need to do something with, to, or in concert with WordPress – we can make it happen.
Many publishers are embedding videos on their blogs from various sources, including YouTube, Brightcove, DailyMotion, Blip.TV, and others.
One consistent piece of feedback we’ve received from publishers, is that it can be difficult and time consuming to remember the exact steps that each video site requires to embed a video — as they all have slightly different methods and formats.
To make this video embedding process easier a company by the name of Vodpod introduced a “Post to WordPress” browser tool that works with hundreds of video sites and makes it easy to grab a video and publish it to your WordPress blog.
With support for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Camino – the Vodpod tool works within your browser and is compatible with both WordPress.com and self-installed WordPress.
When you see a video you want to post to your blog, just click the WordPress logo button. It should automatically grab the embed code (this works for sites like YouTube and 100s of other video sharing sites).
